LMS Rebrand with E-com Shop Development & Automation Integration

Cybersecurity Preparedness & Resilience - Endpoint Protection Systems

Overview: For the Home Builder's Institute (HBI), a national leader in trade education, I developed and implemented a full-service solution for digital course delivery. This project highlights my ability to create a professional e-commerce store and integrate it with a learning management system to streamline the sale and distribution of digital learning content.

Goal ▼

The primary goal was to create a seamless and fully branded end-to-end digital experience for HBI's customers. This was a systems-focused project; my role was not to create new learning content, but to build a robust platform for delivering HBI's existing modules and ensuring all enrollment data was accurately tracked.

Challenge ▼

HBI needed a professional e-commerce storefront for a diverse user base, including post-graduate professionals, high school students, and prospective students. This new storefront had to seamlessly integrate with their existing LMS, Litmos, to ensure automated course delivery and proper tracking for those who might later enroll in a full curriculum.

Furthermore, Litmos has limited native branding options. The project required a custom solution to fully align the LMS with the new Shopify brand while also creating a dynamic user interface that adapted based on the user's enrollment status.

Solution ▼

I provided a complete, integrated solution by building a professional Shopify store, developing a custom app to connect it to the LMS, and then fully customizing the LMS to match the new brand. This comprehensive approach delivered a unified, seamless platform for HBI and their learners.

Process ▼

My process began with designing and building a new e-commerce storefront by tailoring a Shopify template to meet HBI's brand and functional needs.

With the new store in place, I developed a custom Shopify app with an API connection to Litmos to automate the entire fulfillment process. This involved mapping Shopify products to specific Litmos courses using unique identifiers. The app automatically created a user account in Litmos upon purchase, unlocked the appropriate courses, and sent a welcome email with login details.

Finally, I customized the LMS to complete the brand experience. I used custom CSS to "beautify" the LMS login page and learner dashboard, adding features like a news and updates slider. I also implemented conditional display logic to hide specific menu items, ensuring a clean and relevant user interface for those who had only purchased a single course.

Result ▼

The final result was a fully branded and functional e-commerce store that seamlessly integrated with HBI's LMS. The entire experience, from a customer's initial purchase to their access and completion of a course, was fully automated and consistently branded. This solution not only streamlined operations but also ensured that all student data was accurately logged for HBI's records.

I also included a Quick Reference Guide for employees to follow along to make changes to the LMS after initial setup:
